How can the process be emission free?

There are 2 circuits in the process, the heat/exhaust circuit and the process vapour circuit. Oil is burnt in a waste oil burner to generate the heat required by the process. Some of the exhaust gasses from that are directed back into the heating circuit while the remainder are passed through a lime bath scrubber where the dioxides of carbon and sulphur are converted into calcium carbonate and sulphate, leaving only Nitrogen and water vapour exhausted to the atmosphere. All vapours from the process are contained within the system and condensed.

Is the process pyrolysis?

The basis of the process is pyrolysis but the only common factors are the use of heat and the exclusion of air. Oils produced from a pyrolysis process typically begin to separate from the moment they are manufactured. Oils from the GDT process do not separate – we have samples from more than 3 years ago that are still ‘whole’.

What waste is generated from the process?

The only waste stream is heat. All products from the process can be used; the oil can be used as a heat source, blended with fossil fuels, used to make carbon black (instead of fossil fuels), further refined into other usable hydrocarbon products, the carbon can be used in multiple ways from a heat source to an agricultural additive, from a rubber filler to use in steel manufacture, the steel is used in the scrap steel market. There is a strong potential for using the waste heat in the generation of electrical energy thereby rendering the process completely waste free.

Do the tyres require any pre-treatment?

No. The GDT process uses whole tyres as its feedstock. Currently the process can treat any tyre up to massive OTR Tyres.
